NAPLAN

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual
assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9.

NAPLAN is made up of tests in four areas (or ‘domains’) of:

• Reading
• Writing
• Conventions of Language (Spelling, Grammer, Punctuation)
• Numeracy

The assessments are undertaken nationwide, every year. From 2023, the test window is moving from May to March.

Spelling Bee) and STEM (Mathematics, Science and Digital Technologies).

ACER (Primary & Seconday Entrance Exams)

ACER (also known as the Australian Council for Educational Research) is one of the
oldest and respected of the 3 companies with around 10,000 students sitting ACER
exams. ACER is well-known to have questions that seem very difficult in terms of
problem solving, but the mathematics used to get to the answer is actually very simple
addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Edutest is an educational assessment organization that meets the needs of schools,
parents and students. Edutest Pty Ltd conducts Scholarship and Entrance tests on
behalf of many schools in Australia and is based on a solid educational foundation,

AAS – Academic Assessment Service (Primary & Seconday Entrance Exams)

Academic Assessment Services are an exam provider/setter. There are 3 major test
setters in Australia; they are ACER, Edutest and Academic Assessment Services (aka AAS
and formerly known as Robert Allwell & Associates).

A scholarship provides you with affordability (parents receive a fee reduction usually 20-
100% on tuition fees, usually saving parents more than $7000 a year) so that your child
can access to the most Prestigious schools. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity that
gives your child a significant advantage in life. However, in order to gain a scholarship,
your child must sit a competitive test.

SELECTIVE SCHOOLS ENTRY

NSW public schools offer a range of opportunities for high potential and gifted students
including opportunity classes and selective high schools. Selective high schools are
specifically designed to provide optimal learning conditions that will make a difference
in supporting the development of academic talent and the wellbeing of high potential
and gifted students.

These schools help students learn by grouping them with students of similar ability and
by using specialised evidence-based teaching methods to allow students to move
through curricula at a faster pace and explore concepts in greater depth and with
greater complexity. It is not possible to sit the test on any other day or from any location
outside NSW.

LEARNING PROGRAM (SEALP )

Select Entry Accelerated Learning Programs (SEAL or SEALP) are enrichment programs
designed for academically gifted and talented students who can work at a much faster
pace than their peers. SEAL/SEALP allows high achievers to accelerate their academic
studies and because of this, offers a more engaging and challenging learning
environment compared to a standard classroom.

Australian Math Competition (AMC)

The AMC is an engaging 30-problem competition that demonstrates the importance
and relevance of mathematics in students’ everyday lives; it is open to students in
years 3 to 12. Australia’s leading educators and academics, with a deep understanding
of our national curriculum standards, actively design the unique AMC problems each
year. Teachers coordinate the AMC in schools. Our competition is fully online, with a
paper version of the competition also available. We offer ongoing support and
resources before the competition and on the day.

Out of the 30 problems, students should attempt as many questions as they can. They
are not penalized for an incorrect answer. The earlier problems may use more familiar
mathematics while the later problems are more difficult. These later problems are
intended to challenge the student and require more sophisticated problem-solving
skills.
